Hush by Amaleka McCall / 229 pages. Read in 14 days

Deidre is not your average girl from New York instead she is an achiever that has always wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps to be involved in the law as an FBI Agent. She didn’t know that in the end she would be confused between being a good cop and bad cop. At a young age, Deidre and her mom were told that her father Ramon Aponte killed himself while out on duty, but she never believed that and knew in her heart that he wouldn’t do such a thing. Deidre knew in her heart that something more had killed her father, she wanted to find out who was responsible for killing him and the only way to do that was to join forces with the law. Deidre was determined to learn everything she could to eventually put the person she felt was responsible for causing her mom to become an alcoholic and leaving her without a man to call dad, in jail. She learns that her supervisor, Ricky Bloom (the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the DC FBI Office), which is also one of her dad’s good friends is responsible for her father’s death. Ever since her dad died, Ricky stepped in to be a good father figure for her by attending all her school events and her accomplishments through the academy. So she couldn’t figure out why Ricky would do such a thing that is until another agent confesses everything to her before blowing his brains out in front of her. Deidre learns that her father was killed over an unsettled debt that took place between Ramon and Ricky years back. After years of sleeping with Ricky, Deidre finds out just how grimy Ricky really is by setting her up to take an assignment in New York with the FAB (Fly A—Bi---- Mob) just so that she could be killed. After spending months with these girls and falling in love with one of their brothers, she finds it hard to stay true to her job as an FBI agent. She risks her life by not wearing a wire and sneaking her registered gun on meetings with the girls. She was enjoying her life as a bad cop but before she knew it, she discovers that the brother she was sleeping with is actually her own brother RJ (Ramon Jr) and his sister (Chastity) is her sister as well. Ricky knew this and devised a plan to pay a debt to Ramon by having all his children set each other up. In the end, Deidre is caught in a purposely planned crossfire with the FBI but the person behind the trigger is what shocks her the most.
